Layers of fear 2 platinum3/17/2023 Last edited by jens on 28 June 2019 at 4:16 pm UTC Knowing that developers and publishers know that I spend my money for Linux is quite important for me. This is not the case with other ways of playing non-Linux games on Linux. To be fair, with Steam Play Linux gets visibility because a Steam Play purchase counts as Linux. Emulation and compatibility layers were always the best hope for linux gaming Devs won't develop for linux because there are not enough users, users will not move to linux because that is not where the games they want to play are. You think they support Windows because they like Windows? Nope, they support it because that is where the users are. The cold hard truth is that devs will not support linux until the market grows. We want to be Linux gamers and help the Linux support ecosystem, not Windows gamers helping the Windows support ecosystem. No Tux No Bux is exactly what we need more of so that we get more Linux support. Quoting: Guest Quoting: Guest Quoting: GuestI've said it before and I will say it again, "no tux no bucks" does more harm than good and this shows why So while we don't get the "latest and greatest" games, keep in mind that we do have a lot of games that stay popular supported on Linux, so there's at least a silver lining of sorts there. Stretching it out even more, from the top 100 by player count, 43 of them support Linux. Going even further, out of the top 100 games on Steam for player count, from Valve's list, only currently Total War: THREE KINGDOMS shows up.Īs a quick additional and interesting measure for June: Looking at the top 20 by player count right now, how many in total support Linux? A much healthier 10, so half which isn't so bad. Taking a look myself a bit closer, out of the top 20 games most played on Steam right now (players online) only one of those games Valve listed in the blog post actually make it at all, which is Total War: THREE KINGDOMS and that does support Linux. What's interesting though, is this only takes into account the first two weeks in both cases. First we get games, then we get players, then we hopefully get developers wanting control with their own supported Linux builds. Once again, this is a big reason why Steam Play is going to help in the long run. Without popular games, Linux gaming won't grow to a point where it will be noticeable. Note: The top free games list has two entries that also appear in the top revenue list. If we take "Platinum" Steam Play games again, that only rises to two. Of those, only one supports Linux which is Never Split the Party. They also went over the top five free games, measured by peak player count within the first two weeks following release: Conqueror's Blade, Splitgate: Arena Warfare, Minion Masters, Eden Rising and Never Split the Party. It would be even higher, if Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye worked with Steam Play and since both said they're working on it (Sources: EAC - BattlEye), things can only get better. What happens to that number if we include those that can be run with Steam Play, with a "Platinum" rating from user reports on ProtonDB? That brings it right up to nine, which is far more impressive. Without looking, take a guess at the number of games in that list that actually support Linux.ĭid you take a guess? The answer is a rather sobering two: Rise of Industry and Total War: THREE KINGDOMS. In this blog post they start by listing 20 games that had the top revenue earned in the first two weeks following their release. Valve have put out a news post to highlight some of the top games put onto Steam in May and it's another reminder of why Steam Play is needed.

On reading Yudkin’s introduction, he felt a shock of recognition. Eventually, he tracked down a copy after submitting a request to his university library. When Lustig returned to California, he searched for Pure, White and Deadly in bookstores and online, to no avail. Yudkin found himself fighting a rearguard action, and he was defeated. But by the time he wrote his book, the commanding heights of the field had been seized by proponents of the fat hypothesis. Yudkin led a diminishing band of dissenters who believed that sugar, not fat, was the more likely cause of maladies such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Its central tenet was that a healthy diet is a low-fat diet. When Yudkin was conducting his research into the effects of sugar, in the 1960s, a new nutritional orthodoxy was in the process of asserting itself. For at least the last three decades, the dietary arch-villain has been saturated fat. This represents a dramatic shift in priority. Sugar has become dietary enemy number one. In the UK, the chancellor George Osborne has announced a new tax on sugary drinks. In the US, the latest edition of the government’s official dietary guidelines includes a cap on sugar consumption. We read almost every week of new research into the deleterious effects of sugar on our bodies. But, unlike Yudkin, Lustig is backed by a prevailing wind. Lustig was certainly putting his academic reputation at risk when he embarked on a high-profile campaign against sugar. Perhaps the Australian scientist intended a friendly warning. He died, in 1995, a disappointed, largely forgotten man. Prominent nutritionists combined with the food industry to destroy his reputation, and his career never recovered. “If only a small fraction of what we know about the effects of sugar were to be revealed in relation to any other material used as a food additive,” wrote Yudkin, “that material would promptly be banned.” The book did well, but Yudkin paid a high price for it.

The 100 meter scenario will take a lot longer to search then the 10 meter one but you are more likely to find the ball with the broader search. Versus saying the ball is somewhere between 0 and 100 meters (0 and 300 feet) away. It is like throwing a ball into a field then telling somebody to ball is somewhere between 0 and 10 meters (0 and 30 feet) away. Basically the fudge factor tells aircrack-ng how broadly to brute force. Aircrack-ng uses brute force on likely keys to actually determine the secret WEP key. The idea is to get into the ball park with statistics then use brute force to finish the job. However the statistical approach can only take you so far. That explains why the more data that is available, the greater the chances that aircrack-ng will determine the secret WEP key. So, mathematically, it is more likely that the key starts with AE than with 11 (which is second on the same line) which is almost half as possible. In the screenshot above, you can see, that at key byte 0 the byte 0xAE has collected some votes, 50 in this case. Looking at an example will hopefully make this clearer. Aircrack-ng will subsequently test the key to confirm it. Needless to say, the secret key with the largest number of votes is most likely correct but is not guaranteed. For each key byte, the screen shows the likely secret key and the number of votes it has accumulated so far. The more votes a particular potential key value accumulates, the more likely it is to be correct. Different attacks have a different number of votes associated with them since the probability of each attack yielding the right answer varies mathematically. This is the fundamental basis of the statistical techniques.īy using a series of statistical tests called the FMS and Korek attacks, votes are accumulated for likely keys for each key byte of the secret WEP key. Essentially, certain IVs “leak” the secret WEP key for particular key bytes. Using statistical mathematics, the possibility that a certain byte in the key is correctly guessed goes up to as much as 15% when the right initialization vector (IV) is captured for a particular key byte. When using statistical techniques to crack a WEP key, each byte of the key is essentially handled individually. For non-x86 CPUs, SIMD improvements are present as well. With the exception of AVX512, all other instructions are built-in Aircrack-ng, and it will automatically select the fastest available for the CPU. SSE2, AVX, AVX2, and AVX512 support is included to dramatically speed up WPA/WPA2 key processing. EAPOL packets (2 and 3) or packets (3 and 4) are considered a full handshake. However, aircrack-ng is able to work successfully with just 2 packets. For WPA handshakes, a full handshake is composed of four packets. A “four-way handshake” is required as input. It requires more packets than PTW, but on the other hand is able to recover the passphrase when PTW sometimes fail.Īdditionally, the program offers a dictionary method for determining the WEP key.įor cracking WPA/WPA2 pre-shared keys, only a dictionary method is used. The FMS/KoreK method incorporates various statistical attacks to discover the WEP key and uses these in combination with brute forcing. The other, older method is the FMS/KoreK method. The main advantage of the PTW approach is that very few data packets are required to crack the WEP key. An important limitation is that the PTW attack currently can only crack 40 and 104 bit WEP keys. This Tutorial: Packets Supported for the PTW Attack page provides details. Please remember that not all packets can be used for the PTW method. If the key is not found, then it uses all the packets in the capture. In the first phase, aircrack-ng only uses ARP packets. The first method is via the PTW approach (Pyshkin, Tews, Weinmann). This part of the aircrack-ng suite determines the WEP key using two fundamental methods. Aircrack-ng is an 802.11 WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK key cracking program.Īircrack-ng can recover the WEP key once enough encrypted packets have been captured with airodump-ng.

Turbo boost switcher reviews3/17/2023 I'm aware that the choice of 64GB of RAM will significantly help with performance from these large libraries.įirst: does the internal GPU make a difference to the way an external screen functions, and the demands placed on the laptop? If I'm choosing between the Radeon 5300M or 5500M (the 5600M is out of my price range), will one of these do a better job of comfortably operating my external display, and minimising fan noise and excessive heat? I'm looking for some guidance with my purchase - to try to minimise fan noise and heat to the extent that's possible, by choosing the right specs.Īs context: my setup revolves around Logic Pro X (with some occasional Cubase use), and I use fairly sample-heavy / processor heavy plug-ins like Omnisphere, Superior Drummer, and a number of large orchestral sample libraries from Spitfire. Of course, like many of these things, there haven't been any solid analytical tests done - but it does appear that lots of people have suffered these issues with their new MacBook Pro 16". There's also a general anecdotal consensus that these MacBooks usually only produce excessive fan noise and heat when they're used with an external display. It appears that i9 units are most severely effected, and depending on who you ask, it seems that the problems aren't combined to a specific DAW. There has been a lot of discussion about overheating on the current MacBook Pro 16". I'm going with the 16" MacBook Pro, and will opt for 64GB of RAM. Given that the desktop being replaced is a healthily-specced Mac mini, I'm looking for a well-specced laptop. I'm about to update the studio computer, replacing a desktop Mac and a MacBook Pro combo that I have now, with a single computer for studio and location.

Trilobite udig site3/17/2023 One online reviewer said, "I just got back from my second trip to U-dig fossil quarry. The nearest food and gas is in Delta, fifty two miles away. Pick a spot below or above the U-DIG Quarry. You can camp anywhere you want on BLM land. There is no organized camping however much of the land around the U-DIG Quarry is BLM or public land. There is plenty of room for RV's at the site. Leashed dogs are allowed at the quarry, be sure to bring extra water. The quarry accepts cash, checks, and all major credit cards. A discount of 20% is available for Utah residents who can show a driver's license. There is also a discount for Boy Scout groups and local school groups. Group discounts are available for ten or more. Length of stay charges are broken into two, four and eight hour time periods. There is no charge for children under six if accompanied by a paying adult. Age groups are from 7 to 16, and 17 and older. Pricing for the quarry is based on age and length of stay. Inexpensive safety glasses are available at most hardware stores. Splitting rock can create shards of stone, which could injure your eyes if not protected. The quarry is not allowed to provide eye protection due to health concerns. It is also important to bring safety glasses. Depending on the time of your visit, you might want to bring beverages and a light lunch. Wear sturdy shoes to protect your feet from dust and sharp rock and bring a light jacket in case the weather changes. Tips for visiting the quarry - bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands. Any type of vehicle can travel this gravel road. Then travel twenty miles down a well-maintained gravel road to reach the quarry. There is a U-DIG Fossils sign at this intersection. At the Long Ridge Reservoir sign between mile markers 56-57, turn right. Once in Delta, travel thirty two miles west on Highway 6 / 50. It is approximately ninety miles from Provo to Delta and approximately one hundred and thirty miles from Salt Lake City to Delta. The quarry is located approximately fifty two miles west of Delta, Utah. Do not attempt to enter the quarry when it is closed. Please arrive at the quarry before 4pm, as it closes early if no one is present by then. It is open on some holidays during the season. Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm.The quarry is closed on Sundays. The U-DIG Fossils quarry opens for the season in the middle of March. There are toilet facilities at the quarry. They will provide digging instructions and assistance with finding and identifying fossils. The quarry can provide hammers to split the shale, buckets to hold your collection and to transport fossils to your vehicle in the parking area. Fresh rock is exposed with an excavator on a regular basis. These men will you how to split the rock to find trilobites, and can help identify what you find. The U-Dig staff will roam the quarry area and are happy to show you how to find the richest veins of fossil-bearing rock. Most visitors to the park find ten to twenty trilobites in a four-hour period. The fossils range in length from an eighth of an inch, to two inches. Other fossils, including brachiopods, sponges, worm tracks, and phyllocarids, can be uncovered, but they are harder to come by. Alokistocare harrisi, Bolasidella housensis, and Olenoides nevadensis are some of the rarer species that have been found. The most common trilobite species found at the Quarry are: Asaphiscus wheeleri, Elrathia kingi, or Peronopsis interstricta. They are one of the most popular fossils with collectors because there are so many varieties and they are often preserved in excellent condition. These hard-shelled prehistoric critters roamed the sea floor and coral reefs in search of food. U-Dig regularly extracts fresh chunks of fossil-bearing rock with heavy equipment.Ī form of invertebrate marine life, trilobites lived more than 500 million years ago. If you want to dig deeper and remove fresh rock for yourself, larger tools are available. Bring your own hammer, or U-Dig Fossils can provide one. The fossils are found in limestone shale rocks that split easily into flat sheets, revealing the trilobite fossils. Containing one of the world's richest deposits of trilobites, at this site you can dig and find your own fossils. U-Dig Fossils is a private, family run quarry west of Delta, Utah.

Compare colleges3/16/2023 What if COVID-19 affected your ability to pay for college? “In my opinion, students should definitely appeal - financial aid offices don’t like the word ‘negotiate’ - their financial aid package under certain circumstances,” says Sorensen. You could reach out to the financial aid office at your first-choice school and tell them that you want to accept their offer of admission if they can match or come closer to the merit award offer from their competitor. Perhaps a larger merit scholarship is being offered by your second-choice school. In other cases, you might see a gap between award offers from two schools, particularly in offer components based on your merit as a student. Keep in mind that some schools have a no-change policy once an award package has been delivered, and any appeal will likely be unsuccessful,” explains Richard Sorensen, president of Falcon Management Group, which runs TFS Scholarships. Be sure you can present a logical front with plenty of reasoning for your argument. “The appeal process itself should be done in an orderly and professional manner. If not, reach out to the financial aid office via phone or email to learn more about how to appeal your financial aid award package. Some schools may have an appeals process or forms available on the school’s financial aid office website. You could also appeal if you feel that the school is offering you less than it is offering other students in similar financial situations. Perhaps your parents’ income dropped, you lost your part-time job, or your family’s house was in the path of a natural disaster. For example, you could appeal an award package if your personal or family financial situation has recently changed and, as a result, you and your family are not able to make the contribution you had initially expected. In some cases, there might be opportunities to appeal financial aid offers with colleges. What is an appeal and when does your financial aid offer warrant one? Your net cost can be paid from a combination of cash, savings, income, loans (federal or private) and other self-help aid (such as work-study programs). Your net cost is more important than the COA because this is the amount you are responsible for providing. To figure out what you are responsible for, ignore the loan section and start by determining your net cost: How much will I be charged to attend college? This is not the amount you will actually be charged to attend the school. The COA is also the maximum amount of financial aid you could potentially receive. Transportation / personal expenses or miscellaneous: Not all schools include this estimate in the financial aid letter.Books and supplies: Estimated cost for all materials you will need for classes.Note that many schools offer a variety of meal plans at different price points. Room and board: Cost for housing and meals on campus.Tuition and fees: Cost and fees for attending the school. In your financial aid award letter, the cost of attendence (COA) is an overall number based on: What costs are listed in the financial aid award letter? Never pay for financial aid help talk directly to the schools. Be cautious when relying on information you received from friends or others who have gone through the process. Pay close attention to which aid is from scholarships or grants versus student loans, because you will need to pay back student loans after you graduate.Īs you go through this process, don’t be afraid to ask questions, but only ask qualified professionals, such as the financial aid staff at the college or university. Those sources could include things like scholarships, grants, a work-study program, and student loan offers. This document outlines the total price of attending that college or university and the various sources of funding you could access to pay for it. It is usually included with the admission acceptance letter. Then, you will get a financial aid award letter from the school. Each school you applied to will use your SAR to evaluate your eligibility to receive financial assistance. What is a financial aid award letter?Īfter you complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Here, you’ll learn how to compare college financial aid offers and appeal them if needed. To ease your mind on the cost question, let’s break down your financial aid award letters. You have many factors to consider during this important time. Choosing the right college is a big, and sometimes difficult, decision. |
